There were roses on the fence, where I met you
By the purple shrub of destiny.
I thought I was near INSANITY.
Because you were so lovely.
And I fell off the edge
Of the cliff of infatuation.
And I remember wondering
Who cut your hair.
Ooooooh baby I picked a rose and it reminded me
Of the swirly bits on your jumper,
Except they were green,
And not so much swirly as a sort of squiggle-like arrangement.
And then some bloke cut the rosebush down
And I went and had a look at some other roses instead.
But they weren’t the same, baby,
So I’ll wait for those roses to grow back over the fence.
There were roses on the fence, when you dumped me.
But it was October so the roses were kind of dead.
Like my soul, because you’d just dumped me.
But when I saw the murderous hatred in your eyes,
My love for you increased severalfold.
Because it was kind of attractive, to be honest.
And I remember wondering
What I was doing this Friday.
Ooooooh baby I picked a rose and it reminded me
Of that swirly thing that crazy cartoon eyes do.
And then that kind of reminded me of you.
Because now that I think about it, you were a bit of a psycho.
And then that sort of made me want to watch Tom and Jerry,
So I did, and ordered a large barbecue chicken pizza from Pizza Hut,
And a litre bottle of sprite.
Baby, that’s what I did on Friday night.
But if we ever get back together,
And you ask me what I did then,
I’ll say I waited by the fence
For the roses to grow again.
